Boy, 14, Is Fatally Shot in the Bronx

A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in the Bronx on Wednesday night, the police said.

The boy was found outside of an apartment building on Morris Avenue in the Fordham/University Heights section of the Bronx at about 9:15 p.m., the police said.

He had been shot in the torso and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released pending family notification, and the police did not provide a description of any suspects or any further details.

The number of children shot in New York City this year is up sharply from previous years. Through the end of September, 119 children had been shot, up from 93 and 83 in the preceding years. In the three years before the pandemic, that number ranged from 41 to 47.

Another 14-year-old boy, Jacob Borbin, was fatally shot in August about a mile north of the Morris Avenue building.

There were also many underage suspects in shootings this year: 98 of them through the end of September, up from 75 last year and 44 the previous year.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
